There is delay in EHR adoption…

Now that we have technology ready, EHR Vendors in place to begin selling to medical providers EHRs to lower their costs and provide them with reimbursement, we have a number of organizations standing in the middle of the road…CCHIT, ONC, AARA, Obama Certification, CMS, Meaningful use…
What is next? There are many uncertainties around EHR adoption and the latest is regarding the finalization of meaningful use which is expected to be relaeased end of Dec or beginning part of January. This has put burden on EHR vendors as sales drop and are put ‘on hold’, while the government sorts out the stipulations behind reimbursements, reporting and qualified EHRs.
Is CCHIT no longer going to be the certifying body behind EHRs? Is the government going to have yet another certification or take over that role? It might make sense since it is government dollars that will be reimburseing medical providers.
The game is called…wait and see. Meanwhile vendors tighten their belts waiting for clarity and definition so they can move ahead and begin selling EHR solutions to the healthcare industry.
